The History of Gorilla Powder Coating

In 1984 John Leja & his son, Greg, started Gelko Adhesives & Gelko Aerospace. Gelko was a vertically integrated manufacturing plant, reacting its own resin systems, prepreging substrates, pressing laminates and assembling composite structures.

It's original focus was on high demand, tight tolerance & high performance components for the Aerospace Industry. In the late 80's Gelko expanded its manufacturing to include Machining, Casting, Stamping, Cold Forming, Wire Forming and Coating.

It's specialty expanded to providing cutting edge, top quality components for Manufacturing. It had a broad base of Manufacturing, Coating, Distribution and Direct Importing.

John and Greg together made a great team; with combined experience in formulated and personally reacted resin systems, expertise in structural bonding of metal or composite surfaces and the bonding of high performance protective and decorative finishes to metal & fibrous surfaces.

They realized their knowledge and understanding would lend its self well to the powder coating industry, thus forming Gorilla Powder Coating, Inc., in 1994. Knowing full well that 'complete cure' was the only way to truly achieve performance from the available powders, they set out to take powder coating to its limit.

The facility was designed and built using John’s chemical engineering and Greg’s process engineering background.
