Gorilla Powdercoating has been doing research on adhesion for AAMA 2604, 2605 & up and coming 2606 specifications requirements for the past 10 years. Gorilla has taken a different approach to solving the cost issues associated with AAMA requirements.

Our Mission: first look at the surface, and what makes for the best adhesion base for the primer. Gorilla has come up with a unique profile utilizing a unique blast media under controlled condition. This process provides a predictable high performance adhesion base that is easily repeated in normal production conditions.

This process is applicable to Kynar Powders or High Performance Powder Coatings. The process and Media are Patent Pending under the name Gorilla Grip*. Currently, salt sprays have exceeded 7000 hours on aluminum at DuPont's laboratory.

This surface is not only predictable, it's also cost effective when compared to conventional chemical pretreatment.

Our goal is to provide an easily identified surface, visual with a simple microscope to confirm readiness.

Coating Process: Gorilla Tough-Coat™ Powder Coating provides four different processes based on individual requirements and cost constraints.

Each process takes the cure to a 100% cross-link stage or full cure. This provides the best possible adhesion and durability that each powder can provide. (Powder performance varies from chemistry to chemistry).

We work with each project on an individual basis, for process conditions, powder selection, performance and cost.

Gorilla Tough-Coat™ Descriptions

  1. Gorilla Tough-Coat™ Basic: This is our most economical Architectural coating. The surface is blasted to a Gorilla Grip* specified surface. The part is then Quality Controlled for weld slag and B'sB's before coating. The part is then Gorilla Tough Coated to a specified coating thickness and cured for an extended period of time. This insures the longest possible life of the single coat system.

  2. Gorilla Tough-Coat™: This is our intermediate Architectural coating. This process includes all the requirements of our Basic system plus our unique primer system. The part is primed, then "B" staged and cooled, then the topcoat is applied. The part now receives an extended cure for good cross-linking to enhance performance and long life.

  3. Gorilla Tough-Coat™ Premier: This is our best Architectural Gorilla Tough Coat available. This sytem includes all of 1 & 2, plus a number of extras. First, the part is blasted to meet our Gorilla Grip System requirements. One coat of primer "B" staged, two coats of color (applied in two separate cycles), a final clear topcoat is applied, then the part is cured for a long time at a low temperature for a complete high density cross link. The final product is not only beautiful but possesses the best possible life and performance available from any coating.

  4. Gorilla Tough-Coat™ Kynar: This system carries a 20-year Guarantee from the Manufacturer. Call and ask about availability and restrictions.
